Course Description

A key to successful therapy and treatment outcomes is to guide patients toward positive change. Yet it often remains unclear as to how this can be achieved. Research shows that trying to convince patients to change is counterproductive, and clinicians are often stymied when they find themselves working harder than the patient. Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based communication approach for strengthening patient engagement and eliciting/strengthening patients’ intrinsic motivation for behavioral change. This webinar provides an essential primer for behavioral health clinicians who wish to learn more skillful approaches for: cultivating patient engagement, guiding patients towards positive change, and softening discord in the patient-clinician relationship.
