Course Description
This six-hour webinar is designed for private practice clinicians who are looking for a training that goes beyond the basics. This program is tailored to the needs of clinicians who own private practices; run mental health or counseling related organizations; serve in director/management roles; provide clinical supervision; or are involved policy development and operational issues.
This webinar covers a wide range of issues concerning private practice including up-to-date information about timely issues and topics such as cross-state practice, interstate compacts, and privacy challenges in the digital age. Participants will leave equipped with an abundance of practical information, materials, links, and tools. A few examples of topics addressed:
• Overlooked pitfalls in private practice
• Teletherapy in private practice: Six ethical/legal keys
• Interjurisdictional practice: Realities vs myths
• Handling subpoenas and court orders
• Social media essentials for private practices
• Minors & parents: Hazards and tips
This class meets the law and ethics requirement for California Psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, LEPs and LPCCs, as well as the ethics course requirement for New York, Pennsylvania and other states.

Instructor
Terry Casey Ph.D.
is a Licensed Psychologist, HSP (TN #1975) with over 35 years of professional experience in diverse settings serving a wide range of clients. Dr. Casey conducts a variety of CE webinars/seminars on topics related to ethical, legal, and practice issues for mental health professionals across the country. He has taught Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in a CACREP-accredited M.S. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling for the last 18 years. He served as the Clinical Director for a large counseling and psychological services organization based in Nashville, Tennessee for 17 years. He also served for several years as the Chair of the Ethics Committee Chair for a state-level professional organization. Dr. Casey also operates a private practice in Franklin, Tennessee through which he provides consultation services to mental health related private practices and organizations.
About This Webinar
The webinar is a live, interactive class. You will view the webinar in real time from your home or office on a computer, tablet (e.g., iPad) or phone. You will be able see the speaker and the slides, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and respond to polls. You will have access to the handouts, which you can view on your computer or download and print.
You will need to show up on time to receive credit, just like at an in-person class, but you can wear whatever you’d like! The class will run from 9am to 4pm Pacific Time. There will be a morning and afternoon break and a break for lunch. At the end of the class you will need to take a post-test and receive a score of 75% or above to pass. You have up to three attempts to pass the post-test. Most people pass on their first attempt. After two attempts to pass the post-test you will need to contact our office and you will be provided with one more attempt to pass the post-test. The post-test will only be available at the end of the class. Once you pass the post-test, you will complete an evaluation online and then you will receive your Certificate of Attendance online, which you can view and print.
Cancellation Policy
There is a $35.00 processing fee, per seminar, for refunds requested by the Wednesday prior to the weekend of the webinar. After that time, there will be no refunds. If a course must be cancelled due to an unforeseen event (e.g., natural disaster, instructor illness), the webinar will be rescheduled. Participants will be credited to take the rescheduled course or another PPS webinar. No refunds will be given.
