Course Description
Significant new developments, as well as controversies, have taken place in psychopharmacology during the past two years. This workshop addresses: (1) potential problems with suicidality in children and teenagers treated with antidepressants; (2) childhood onset bipolar disorder (differential diagnosis and treatment); (3) experimental treatments for autism spectrum disorders; (4) new bipolar medications; (5) empirically-derived treatment guidelines for ADHD and for major depression; (6) new studies on over-the-counter products (e.g., St. John's Wort; SAM-e), which if used appropriately work to treat depression; (7) medications for treating nightmares in PTSD; and (8) the role of psychotropic drugs in protecting and healing the brain (neuro-protection).

Instructor
John Preston, Psy.D., ABPP
is Professor of Psychology with Alliant International University, Sacramento campus. He is the author of 21 books, addressing topics that include neurobiology, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology. These books include Taking Charge of Bipolar Disorder and Loving Somone with Bipolar Disorder. Dr. Preston is truly a master therapist and presenter, who is one of PPS’s most sought-after instructors. He lectures throughout the United States and internationally.
Registration Information
A continental breakfast, catered lunch, and afternoon snacks are included in the registration fee for all seminars.
The course fee is determined by the date of payment in relation to the course date:
- Early Registration: If payment is received 3 weeks prior to the seminar date.
- Regular Registration: For payments received by the Wednesday prior to the seminar date.
- Last Minute Registration: For payments received the Thursday or Friday prior to the weekend of the seminar. Last minute registration is dependent on available space.
Cancellation Policy
There is a $35.00 processing fee, per seminar, for refunds requested by the Wednesday prior to the weekend of the seminar. After that time, there will be no refunds. If a course must be cancelled due to an unforeseen event (e.g., natural disaster, instructor illness), the seminar will be rescheduled. Participants will be credited to take the rescheduled course or another PPS seminar. No refunds will be given.
