Borderline Personality Disorders
Course Description
This course presents practical and applied strategies for treating those most challenging cases of Borderline Personality Disorder. Treatment strategies for BPD include rapid assessment of ego functions, understanding common factors that lead to affective dyscontrol, stabilizing neurobiology, applying effective limit setting, learning techniques for achieving emotional control and more effective coping, dialectical behavioral treatment approaches, and management of suicidal and self mutilation behavior.
Objective
Upon completion of this course, the participant will: (1) Refine their diagnostic skills for rapid assessment of BPD. (2) Understand how neurobiology may impact the development and maintenance of BPD. (3) Understand the role of adjunctive treatments (e.g. pharmacology). (4) Learn how to manage suicidal and self-mutilation behavior

John Preston, Psy.D., ABPP is a Professor of Psychology with Alliant International University. He has also been on the faculty of UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Preston is the author of fourteen books including The Handbook of Psychopharmacology for Therapists, You Can Beat Depression and Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder. Dr. Preston is a highly gifted teacher, who has lectured widely in the United States and abroad. He consistently receives outstanding eval-uations from professionals attending his classes.
