Course Description

Weight, eating, exercise avoidance, and body image concerns frequently emerge in the treatment of non-eating disordered patients. This workshop will provide a brief overview of the genetic, biological and environmental determinants of weight, along with dietary, medical and surgical treatments of obesity. You will learn practical methods to help clients deal with hunger, eating in response to external cues, and emotional eating. This workshop will show you how to help your clients increase activity, prevent juvenile obesity, overcome relationship and sexual issues involved with their weight, and improve their body image regardless of weight.

Instructor

Edward Abramson Ph.D.

is a licensed clinical psychologist, Professor Emeritus at California State University, and former Director of the Eating Disorders Center at Chico Community Hospital. Ed has published 20 studies of obesity and eating disorders and is the author of five books including Body Intelligence, It’s NOT Just Baby Fat!, and Emotional Eating. Dr. Abramson has appeared on dozens of TV and radio programs including 20/20, Hard Copy, and Joan Rivers. He’s routinely quoted in publications including NY Times, Good Housekeeping, and O, The Oprah Magazine. Ed is a Fellow of the Obesity Society and has given workshops throughout the U.S., Canada, and in Europe.

Registration Information

A continental breakfast, catered lunch, and afternoon snacks are included in the registration fee for all seminars.

The course fee is determined by the date of payment in relation to the course date:

  • Early Registration: If payment is received 3 weeks prior to the seminar date.
  • Regular Registration: For payments received by the Wednesday prior to the seminar date.
  • Last Minute Registration: For payments received the Thursday or Friday prior to the weekend of the seminar. Last minute registration is dependent on available space.

Cancellation Policy

There is a $35.00 processing fee, per seminar, for refunds requested by the Wednesday prior to the weekend of the seminar. After that time, there will be no refunds. If a course must be cancelled due to an unforeseen event (e.g., natural disaster, instructor illness), the seminar will be rescheduled. Participants will be credited to take the rescheduled course or another PPS seminar. No refunds will be given.
