Course Description

A need clearly exists for more extensive training in the treatment of suicidal clients, since one in five therapists loses a patient to suicide. Despite the difficulties inherent in dealing with suicidal clients, only 40% of all graduate programs offer formal training in the study of suicide. The workshop (1) provides the latest findings on the risk factors and demographics of suicide; (2) offers a conceptual model and a developmental perspective on the dynamics underlying suicide; and (3) addresses the topics of assessment and treatment.
