Course Description
Therapist self-care and self-disclosure are topics often ignored in clinical practice. This workshop features a series of brief film clips depicting high-conflict client-therapist situations with special emphasis on therapist resilience and self-care. A formal decision making model for ethical and legal challenges will be demonstrated along with the foundational aspects of ethical practice such as (1) dealing with dangerous clients; (2) burnout; counter-transference, and vicarious traumatization; (3) confidentiality with couples; (4) record keeping and subpoenas; and (5) boundary crossings and violations. Literature updates, along with relevant Codes of Ethics and current expert opinion on standard of care will be included in all areas of discussion
