Understanding Psychopharmacology
Course Description
This seminar provides a comprehensive overview of clinical psychopharmacology for psychotherapists. The course focuses on mood disorders and anxiety disorders, with some time devoted to ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and severe personality disorders. Each clinical section addresses diagnostic issues, theories of biological etiology, evaluating medication response and side effects, and the interface with psychotherapy.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the participant will : (1) receive an update on new developments in the neurosciences that relate to understanding psychiatric disorders; (2) learn which medications should be considered for specific disorders and the reasons why; (3) develop better skills related to diagnosing psychiatric disorders; (4) Improve abilities to collaborate with psychiatrists and primary care physicians; (5) learn how to evaluate the outcomes of pharmacologic treatments.
