Neurobiology of Anxiety and Depression: Treatment Implications
Course Description
This seminar explores in detail the neurobiology of anxiety and depression, and focuses on treatment implications. Topics covered include the role of severe stress in altering brain functioning, stress and immune system compromise, and psychopharmacology. This course addresses theoretical issues, but also offers concrete, practical approaches to enhance outcome in therapy.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: (1) understand the neurobiology of common psychiatric disorders; (2) learn how severe stress alters brain functioning; (3) understand how psychotherapy alters brain functioning (4) learn new techniques that can enhance outcome in psychotherapy; (5) identify non-medical ways to alter brain functioning through exercise, sleep enhancement, diet and light therapy.
