As a mental health professional, continuing education courses help to update your knowledge of a specific topic and give you some ideas of the latest treatment methods or strategies. The DSM-5 in action online course offers CEUs for mental health professionals with an online course that is compatible with PCs, Macs, tablets, or phones. This 6.0 credit workshop is designed to cover the basic changes when using the DSM-5 with a mental health assessment, treatment planning, and other practice strategies.

About the DSM-5 in action online course

This continuing education course created by Sophia F. Dziegielewski, Ph.D., LCSW, emphasizes examining what is expected and how it relates directly to the DSM-5. Professionals are expected to understand the changes, how it relates to coding and billing and the rationale for the overall changes. The diagnostic-assessment is examined with an overview of many diagnostic categories and how it is linked to behavior-based practice strategies too. PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, ASD and addictive disorders are all examined closely.

Dr. Dziegielewski is a professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Central Florida and has been included in over 130 different publications. Her course will identify the two things that are related to the professional use of the DSM-5 in practice. Both the rationale and resulting changes between the DSM-IV-TR and DSM-5 are explored. Participants also will be able to list the three main diagnostic categories and the criteria needed for proper assessment. Lastly, they will learn how to use the dimensional assessment strategy that is outlined in the DSM-5 for two specific disorders.
